Check here for new modifications, current turn-around time, delays, and other news.
04/11/2008: SACDmods will be shutting down May 31st, 2008 until the second week of July 2008. This is a hard shut down date, and all mods must be completed before that date so I have adequate time to pack up my tools and everything else. So in other words, don't plan on asking me to mod something during the last week of May, it's not going to happen. If anyone insists, I might make a wait list, or I might just take them as they come in once I reopen in Wichita.
Also, SAPC-1 power cord is currently out of stock, I can build to order, but it's not a good time, if you want one of these, please wait until say, August. The SAPC-2 power centers have always been build to order, and it usually only takes a week to build one.
Finally, LC has some working ZapFilter boards, and I'm negotiating to get some hand tested boards shipped in, could be a few weeks, and unfortunately close to my shut down deadline.
03/31/2008: ZapFilter output boards are currently not available, and may not be for some time until LC Audio works out some production difficulties. Any modifications using the ZapFilter output stage cannot be installed as written, but a reduced price mod using premium opamps and AuriCaps can be installed and will render excellent results. The ZapFilter could then be installed at a later time with a trade in allowance given on the coupling capacitors that can be reused. Please inquire for a quote on such a mod.
01/11/2008: Removed all references to the Cambridge, OH address from the website to eliminate shipping errors.
Also, I have accepted an engineering position with Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, KS, upon my graduation from the Ohio State University in June of 2008. SACDmods will be closed during the entire month of June, and will most likely reopen in early July. I fully intend to continue this business even though I now have full-time employment.
09/04/2007: EastSound E-5 modification now available.
08/28/2007: Moved to new hosting, sorry for the unplanned outage over the weekend.
08/19/2007: Denon DVD-3930CI modifications now available. Also coming soon is modifications for the Eastsound E-5 CD Player.
07/26/2007: Free (for the cost of shipping), Sony CE595, good case/transport/remote/box, main board is messed up. Good for parts only. Email if
interested.
07/20/2007: Google Checkout now active!!! Please report any bugs.
Discontinued SCD-XE670, information may be viewed on the Legacy page.
07/19/2007: In process of adding Google Checkout and new shopping cart system, which is now active on NS9100ES and DVD-3910. Please report any bugs!!! Seems to be an improvement over PayPal so far :-)
07/18/2007: PayPal has been removed from this website. I will be switching to Google Checkout shortly. PayPal provides no support to sellers contrary to what they claim.
07/08/2007: I currently cannot accept credit card payments through PayPal because a buyer in an eBay sale claimed that someone fraudulently used his credit card to buy an aviation handheld GPS unit from me, which I shipped to his confirmed credit card billing address. I will not accept funds in my frozen PayPal account.
05/23/2007: SACDmods is closed between June 1st and June 8th. Discontinue using Columbus address unless instructed otherwise.
01/05/2007: Now introducing the SAPC-2 duplex power center. ZapFilters are finally available, so if you've been waiting. . .
10/17/2006: SACDmods is pleased to announce a new business relationship with Lars Clausen's new company DEXA Technologies Ltd., which is operating under the brand name NewClassD. SACDmods will be using the new D-Clock in all modifications from now on. The D-Clock has a unique transformer coupled output that eliminates clock grounding problems and produces a true square wave output.
09/03/2006: New Columbus address added, will be available Sept. 20th.
09/03/2006: Information on Onix XCD-99/ Music Hall CD-25 CD Player modifications added. Information on Audio Research SP-16 modifications added.
06/07/2006: Back to normal in Cambridge, Ohio. Please DO NOT ship your player to Columbus if you still have that address for some reason! No delays.
05/24/2006: SACDmods will be closed between June 1st and June 8th. I can answer emails and phone calls, but cannot perform modifications during this time. Thank you for your patience during this delay.
03/27/2006: Added information about the new Audio Research equipment modification service.
03/26/2006: I'm back in Columbus. You can ship players to that address.
03/08/2006: Shipments between 03/08/2006 and 03/22/2006 must be sent to the Cambridge, OH address!
03/05/2006: DHL now available as a shipping option.
02/17/2006: New phone number added, old number in 740 area code no longer active.
01/08/2005: Updated and expanded the Reviews page. Link to all known Head-Fi and Audio Asylum customer reviews added. If I'm missing any, then please submit them.
12/22/2005: Both the Philips DVD-963SA and Sony DVP-NS500V modifications have been discontinued. Information about these players is in the Legacy page.
12/21/2005: A modification for the Music Hall Maverick is now available. I can also work on the original CD-25, and would like to prototype one of the new version 2 CD-25's.
12/16/2005: The SACDmods SAPC-1: Super Audio Power Cord is now available for $299. The SAPC-1 has a 30 Day Trial period so you may try one with nothing to lose, but I almost guarantee that I won't be getting any back.
12/11/2005: A modification for the Sony DVP-NS9100ES is now complete, price will be announced soon. I have a Music Hall Maverick to prototype, and should have a modification available within the month, and it really needs it!
12/03/2005: I will have a SACDmods power cord of proprietary design available in late December. These cords are extremely effective filters, and they greatly lower the noise floor on all IEC equipped devices. Expected retail price will be $300.
12/01/2005: Cambridge shipping address active between 12/01/2005 and 01/02/2006. Players received in Columbus will sit until 01/02/06.
11/19/2005: The following is my views on the DVP-NS9100ES after receiving one and looking it over:
This is a
very nicely built machine with the potential to completely surpass any of the
Denons I've worked on in sound quality. It has dual R-core transformers, linear
power supplies, etc. One of the most amazing features I've yet seen is a digital
clock selector switch that can send a multiplied signal from the DVD master
clock when you're playing DVD discs or an 11.2896MHz audio specific clock to the
DAC for SACD and CD audio. This should put the player right in the league of the
modified SCD-C555ES, if not even better! The 27MHz clock has always been one of
my complaints with the DVD/SACD players because 27MHz is 612.245 x fS while
11.2896 is an even multiple of 256 x fS. Anytime you have to make these clock
conversions you get additional jitter that you don't get with the audio only
machines. So I would expect it to end up significantly smoother than the jitter
prone DVD based machines.
The construction is almost entirely surface mount, with the exception of certain
capacitors in the audio stage which, when removed, provide an excellent place to
pick up the DAC outputs for a ZapFilter board.
The mod is likely to consist of a 11.2896 MHz LClock, a ZapFilter output stage w/power control relay, FRED diodes, Cardas RCA's. It's fully balanced capable, so if you'd like XLR's that's no problem.
A modification will be available within 1 month.
11/03/2005: I just purchased a schematic for the new Sony NS-9100ES. I am really surprised as how this machine is built. Sony used dual linear power supplies, separate transformers for audio and ops, and current output DACs (BB DSD1796DBR). This could very well be a better sounding machine than the Denon 3910. It is fully ZapFilter and balanced output capable!
The DVP-NS3100ES is basically a DVP-NS999ES clone.
10/30/2005: Added dorm room system profile to system page. Added biography page. Maybe I'll post a resume someday.
9/19/2005: Now ready to accept players for modification at the Columbus, OH location. No wait.
8/28/2005: Denon DVD-2910 modification now available. No wait. SACDmods will not be accepting shipments from Sept. 12 to Sept. 19 for the move back to Columbus. Please contact me regarding which address to ship your player to. I'm not anticipating a need for a waitlist this year since I have plenty of room.
8/12/2005: Coming Soon: Denon DVD-2910. No wait, plenty of parts in stock for everything else.
8/01/2005: If you were on the wait list and still have not been contacted yet, then please email me at your convenience. I had a hard drive fail last week and all wait list information is gone. All mods are currently proceeding on schedule; however, expect a few delays as I transition to a new LC Audio distributor.
6/09/2005: The wait list is no longer in effect. All customers currently on wait are either being contacted or will be contacted shortly. Please email me in advance before shipping in a player, but there will be no wait time. Expected return time will be under 2 weeks maximum.
06/09/2005: Balanced outputs for the Denon 2900, 3910, and Philips 963 are now available. Inquire regarding a retrofit for older mods.
5/31/2005: Beginning June 10th, I will be able to start modding full time again, so the waitlist will be taken care of in little longer than a month. If you're patiently waiting, then I should be able to modify your player within a month. Thank you!
3/30/2005: The new Denon 3910 mod is now available. Current wait time is approximately 2 to 3 months still. A balanced output mod will be available soon for the Denon DVD-3910, 2900, and the Philips DVD-963SA. If you are interested in the balanced option please let me know when you inquire.
1/01/2005: Happy New Year. I've been working as fast as I can on everyone's SACD player and the wait list is slowly moving with an average wait of 2 to 3 months. I will able to get caught up over the summer, but June is a long way off. The major announcement I have to make is that prices will be increasing by 10% this year. The website is already updated with the price increases as you read this. Because I cannot work in volume anymore, this increase is necessary to cover business expenses such as telephone, web hosting, etc., not to mention increases in the price of parts. Thank you for your understanding.
1/01/2005: A modification will be available for the Denon 3910 in about a month.
9/20/2004: I've moved in and should be able to start accepting scheduled shipments within a week.
9/12/2004: I am now closed and not accepting any shipments. I will be moving on the 19th and will need about a week to get established and get the mobile shop setup. I will let people who are on the waiting list know when I am opening again. Feel free to continue to email or call me with your inquiries. I am happy to answer your questions, but will not be able to take any shipments for the next few weeks. The school shipping address is listed on the website, FYI.
08/04/2004: The waiting list procedures have been posted, and will now be in effect. Unscheduled arrivals will be given low priority and may be used as furniture until I can work it in.
08/03/2004: I am starting college in September at The Ohio State University to earn my electrical engineering degree. I have been operating with half of an associate's degree in electrical engineering technology plus years of tweaking experience ever since I started this business just over 2 years ago. Because I am starting college, I will soon be operating on a waiting list/schedule system. I will post details soon. Modifications must be scheduled and sequenced so that I do not have more than two machines at a time, and that my business does not interfere with my engineering education. Basically, I will be closed beginning in the second week of September until early October, or whenever I can get settled in Columbus. Any machine sent after I officially close for September will be held until I can get to it, and no players may be sent in without my prior consent because they could be sent to the wrong address. I will have details available within the week along with pricing for the DVD-2900 (expected at $680). Thank you for your continued support of my business!
07/27/2004: The Denon DVD2900 should be ready in about a week. Pricing to be announced at that time. I will also have a modification available for the Sony DVP-NS999ES soon.
07/18/2004: Sorry I haven't updated for a while. The modification for the Denon 5900 is canceled, but I WILL have a modification for the D2900 soon. Turn around time is currently 2 weeks.
05/28/2004: A replacement shipment is on the way and all players currently in the shop will be ready some time next week. Turn around now 1 week.
05/18/2004: A shipment of ZapFilters and LClocks has been delayed, so if your player is currently in the shop, it may be delayed by a week. Thank you for your patience. Turn-around is 2 weeks currently.
05/09/2004: The SACDmods website has moved to new hosting. The "http://home1.gte.net/res0f2t3/" address will switch entirely to my electrostatic speaker DIY site. Note the new @sacdmods.com email addresses. The contact form has also been discontinued.
04/21/2004: For Sale: 2- 11.2896MHz LClock XO2 precision clocks. DIY install $80.00 each
04/21/2004: ZapFilter's are NOW AVAILABLE. You may now order SCD-C555ES and 963SA modifications.
03/28/2004: Turn around time on all players beside the 555ES and Philips 963SA is now 1 week.
03/28/2004: LClock's are no longer on back order, but I am still awaiting ZapFilters, which should arrive very soon.
03/15/2004: Telephone contact number now available, see contact me page for details.
03/15/2004: Current turn around is back to two weeks, thank LC Audio for the LClock backorders.

01/29/2004: Current turn around time is 2 weeks. Currently awaiting arrival of LClock boards from Denmark.
01/29/2004: ATTENTION: ZapFilter boards are currently out of stock for the next several weeks.
If you want to purchase a 555ES modification, hold off until I remove this message or be prepared to wait.
